Todd Wilkinson and Jon Nelson will represent District 8 for the next two legislative sessions, after winning a five-way race for the republican nomination on Tuesday.

Wilkinson was the top vote-getter, with 2,657 total votes, or 37%. Jon Nelson received 23% support, with 1,606 votes. Madison’s Danny Brown received 18%, with 1,293 votes. Samuel Krueger and James Sapp each received 11%, with 778 and 765 votes respectively.

Wilkinson received the most votes in all four counties that are included in District 8; Brookings, Kingsbury, Miner, and Lake.

Danny Brown was the choice of 30% of Lake County voters, but received just 13% support in Miner County, 10% in Kingsbury, and 9% in Brookings County.

With no democrats or independents in the race, Wilkinson and Nelson will both now wait until the legislative session to be sworn in.

Results are unofficial until canvased.
