The Madison High School girls tennis team finished ninth at the Class A State Tennis Tournament Monday and Tuesday in Rapid City.
Madison scored 120 team points in the 10-team tournament. Sioux Falls Christian won the team championship with 600 points, followed by Rapid City Christian with 429 and Vermillion with 267.
The top individual finish for Madison came from Calista Sahr, who placed second in Flight 4 singles.
Sahr was the No. 2 seed in the flight. She defeated Huron’s Taylor Sorben 7-5, 6-1 in the semifinals Tuesday, then faced Sioux Falls Christian’s Piper DeBoer in the championship match, with DeBoer winning 6-1, 6-3.
Sienna Maxwell finished sixth in Flight 1 singles. Maxwell, the No. 7 seed, advanced into the fifth-place bracket. She defeated Aberdeen Roncalli’s Josie Mitzel 10-2 and Huron’s Say Glay 10-1 before falling to Vermillion’s Katie Yoon 10-7 in the fifth-place match.
Madison also had Maxwell and Sahr competing together in Flight 1 doubles. The Madison pair reached the fifth-place bracket before losing to Huron’s Say Glay and Chalie Sah 10-6.
Other Madison players competing in the state tournament included Lydia Breddin, Shelby Poncelet, Abigail Ingham, and Karissa Grayson.
