Lorraine Kappenman, 102, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Montrose passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls with her family by her side.  Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, August 21 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Montrose.  Visitation will begin at 6 pm on Thursday with a 7 pm prayer service also at the church.

     Lorraine Healy was born September 16, 1923 near Montrose to William and Rose (Sullivan) Healy.  She grew up in the Montrose area and graduated from Montrose High School.  She went on to attend college for a year in Madison and taught country school for a year after.  On May 31, 1943 she married Lester Kappenman and they farmed south of Montrose for many years.   Lester passed away in 2010.  

     Lorraine always kept busy with baking, sewing, dancing.  She spent many mornings at mass and then playing cards with the ladies at the Pub.  Most of all she loved being with people, especially her family.  She cherished the grandkids, spending many hours with them teaching them to drive, baking cookies and teaching them how to play cards.  The grandkids will always have great memories of spending time at the farm, even rock hauling.

     Lorraine is survived by: her children, Tom (Mary) of Sioux Falls, Larry (Sue) of Montrose, Pat of Montrose and Susanne (Red) White of Hartford; son-in-law, Leonard Magee; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, daughter, Lois, great-grandson, Trapper and siblings, Robert, Agnes, Myrna, Ray, Eileen, Marv, Don, Lyle and Rosie.
